ਸਾਰਾਗੜ੍ਹੀ ਦੀ ਜੰਗ 12 ਸਤੰਬਰ 1897 ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾਗੜ੍ਹੀ ਦੇ ਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ 21 ਸਿੱਖਾਂ (ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼-ਭਾਰਤੀ ਫੌਜ (36 ਸਿੱਖ ਰੈਜੀਮੈਂਟ) ਜੋ ਹੁਣ 4 ਸਿੱਖ ਰੈਜੀਮੈਂਟ ਅਖਵਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ,) ਦੀ 10000 ਅਫਗਾਨੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।
ਸਾਰਾਗੜ੍ਹੀ ਦੇ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਤੇ ਅਫਗਾਨੀਆਂ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤੇ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ 21ਸਿੱਖ ਫੌਜ਼ੀ ਮਜੂਦ ਸਨ। ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹਵਾਲਦਾਰ ਈਸ਼ਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। 10000 ਅਫਗਾਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ 21 ਸਿੱਖ ਫ਼ੌਜੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਨਤੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਸੀ । ਪਰ 21 ਸਿੱਖ ਫ਼ੌਜੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਹਿੰਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਰੀ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਫਗਾਨੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਡਟ ਕੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਹਨਾਂ 21 ਸਿੱਖ ਫ਼ੌਜੀਆਂ ਨੇ 600 ਅਫ਼ਗ਼ਨੀ ਪਠਾਣ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਘਾਟ ਉਤਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਸਨ। 21 ਸਿੱਖ ਫ਼ੌਜੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਹਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨੀ ਪਠਾਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਇਹ ਜੰਗ ਇਕ ਮਿਸਾਲ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਕੇ ਇਹਨੀ ਘੱਟ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਸਿੱਖ ਫ਼ੌਜੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਹਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨੀ ਪਰ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਦਾ ਜਾਮ ਪੀ ਗਏ।
ਸਾਰਾਗੜ੍ਹੀ ਸਮਾਨਾ ਘਾਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਹਾਟ ਜਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਹੈ ( ਜੋ ਕਿ ਹੁਣ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ ) ਸਾਰਾਗੜ੍ਹੀ ਦੀ ਜੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਫੌਜੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਨ:-

Battle of saragarhi
The Battle of Saragarhi was fought on 12 September 1897 at the place of Saragarhi by 21 Sikhs (British-Indian Army (36 Sikh Regiment) now called 4 Sikh Regiment) with 10000 Afghans.
The Afghans attacked the fort of Saragarhi and there were 21 Sikh soldiers inside the fort. Who was led by Havaldar Ishar Singh ji. The number of 21 Sikh soldiers was very less compared to 10000 Afghanis. But 21 Sikh soldiers did not lose courage. They fought the Afghans stoutly. Those 21 Sikh soldiers killed 600 Afghani Pathans. 21 Sikh soldiers did not give up and were martyred while fighting the Pathans.
Saragarhi is a village in Kohat district in the Samana Valley (which is now in Pakistan). The names of the soldiers who died in the battle of Saragarhi are as follows:-
